DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

The Department of Mathematics is committed to impart high quality education in Mathematics to the undergraduate  students and is dedicated in developing graduates who are whole-person prepared for a life of purpose, service, and leadership through quality teaching, research, and creative works; establishing an intellectual culture that connects mathematics with real life applications. The Department offers BSc Mathematics course and two certificate courses – Typesetting in Latex and Quantitative aptitude and Logical reasoning.

For the benefit of the students and the community, the department organises a wide range of events at the national and regional levels. Every year, events such as, All Kerala Intercollegiate Mathematics Quiz Competitions, Observance of National and International Days of Importance, and National Seminars/International Conferences/ Lectures are held. The interdepartmental competitions and intradepartmental competitions, such as problem solving, pi approximation competition, poster designing etc are designed to encourage the overall skill development of students. The Department offers coaching for competitive examinations and PSC examinations. Remedial coaching, mentoring and bridge courses give the students advancement a boost.

Objectives

1.Develop Strong Analytical Skills: To equip students with a deep understanding of fundamental mathematical principles and advanced techniques, enabling them to solve complex real-world problems and foster critical thinking.

2.Promote Mathematical Research and Innovation: To encourage students to engage in independent research, fostering creativity and innovation in both pure and applied mathematics.

3.Prepare for Diverse Career Opportunities: To prepare students for a wide range of careers in fields such as finance, technology, education, data science, and engineering, as well as for advanced studies in mathematics and related disciplines.

4.Foster Collaborative Learning and Communication: To develop students' ability to work collaboratively on mathematical projects and to effectively communicate complex mathematical ideas, both in written and oral forms.

Recent Development

•    Introduction of certificate course on Typesetting with LaTeX to  enhance skills of students  in preparing academic documents
•    Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the School of Mathematics and Statistics, M G University aimed at fostering academic collaborations, faculty exchange, and joint workshops/seminars between the institutions.
•    Training and Practice in Vedic Mathematics: Offering training and practice sessions in Vedic Mathematics, which focus on techniques for faster calculations and mental arithmetic.
