The institution has established an Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) in 2019 to sensitize students on their electoral rights and to familiarize them with the procedures for voter registration and casting ballots. The Electoral Literacy Club in the institution is functional and representative in character. Mrs. Diya Philip, Assistant Professor of Economics, is the Faculty Coordinator of ELC during 2023-2024 . The student coordinator is elected from among the members. It is a representative body consisting of students from all departments and is instrumental in creating awareness about the democratic process and electoral procedure. During the 2019 elections, volunteers played a crucial role in supporting Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and elderly voters by assisting them in reaching polling stations, guiding them through the voting process, and ensuring their comfort and safety at the booths. They also actively participated in the 2020 and 2023 elections at the booth level in Ettumanoor, managing queues, assisting voters with the electoral process, enforcing COVID-19 protocols (when applicable), and addressing any immediate voter concerns or issues. The VotuVandi campaigns in 2021 and 2022 featured creative initiatives to boost voter participation, including:
• Campaigns on Wheels: Mobile units traversed various regions to raise awareness and encourage voting.
• Flash Mobs: Spontaneous public performances drew attention to the importance of voting.
• Skits: Short theatrical presentations emphasized the significance of voting and how to participate.
• Online Campaigns: Digital platforms, including social media, were used to disseminate information and motivational content to a broader audience.
During the 2023 by-elections in Puthuppally, volunteers took on the task of maintaining and beautifying a pink polling booth in one of the polling stations in Manarcadu, focusing on cleanliness, decoration, and ensuring a welcoming and accessible environment, particularly for women voters.
The college has undertaken several socially relevant initiatives to promote democratic values and participation in the electoral process. These include organising civic and constitutional awareness programs through the observance of significant days such as Constitution Day on November 26 each year, Voter Rights Day, and Independence Day. These activities are designed to educate students about their civic duties, enhance their understanding of constitutional rights, and foster a strong sense of national pride and responsibility. Through these efforts, the college actively contributes to the advancement of democratic values and encourages greater participation in the electoral process.
